While most children celebrate the beginning of summer, for thousands of Travis County families, the end of the school year means the end of a reliable, healthy daily meal.
The Austin Independent School District reports that 61 percent of its students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
When school ends, so do daily, reliable meals.
That’s why the Central Health Enterprise (CommUnityCare Health Centers, Sendero Health Plans and the Community Care Collaborative – Central Health’s nonprofit partnership with Seton Healthcare Family) and the Central Texas Food Bank are offering Travis County families with low income a healthy, free lunch every weekday for 11 weeks.
From June 4 – August 17, children and adults will receive a healthy, free lunch at the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
A weekend take-home food bag will be available on Fridays.
The summer lunch program is in its fourth year and it’s made possible in partnership with the Central Texas Food Bank. More than 4,000 meals were served last summer.
