Hunger doesn’t end when the school year ends
(Austin) – When summer arrives and school is out, thousands of students and families can miss out on a reliable, daily meal. Hunger is a serious issue in Travis County—the Central Texas Food Bank estimates that more than 170,000, or 14.6%, of residents, suffer from food insecurity, almost 54,000 of them children.
This is why Central Health and the Central Texas Food Bank are offering families with low income a healthy, free lunch each weekday from June 3 through August 9.
Last year, we served 4,330 meals in 11 weeks to children, adults, and seniors, some of whom would have likely gone hungry otherwise.
